Best Golf Courses in Spain

By Scott Mabin, Founder

At a glance

Birdied's best golf courses in Spain sit on the Costa del Sol: Valderrama, Sotogrande, La Reserva, San Roque Club, Valle Romano, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos, from the San Roque end of the coast up to Marbella. The shortlist is ours; the order below moves with the ratings members leave once they've played them. By November the fairways at home are mud and it's dark by mid-afternoon. So every winter a lot of northern European golf packs up and heads for this coast, a short flight south to weather you can play in. These are the courses worth building a week around.

  1. Club de Golf Valderrama San Roque, Cádiz, Spain 18 holes

San Roque, at the Sotogrande end of the coast, and the round a week here is built around.

  2. Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande Sotogrande, Cádiz, Spain 18 holes

Sotogrande itself, a few minutes from Valderrama, so the two sit in the same stay.

  3. La Reserva Golf Club San Roque, Cádiz, Spain 18 holes

San Roque, the third of the cluster at this end of the coast.

  4. San Roque Club San Roque, Cádiz, Spain

San Roque, on the same stretch as Valderrama and La Reserva.

  5. Valle Romano Golf & Resort Estepona, Málaga, Spain 18 holes

Estepona, east of the Sotogrande cluster, on the drive up to Marbella.

  6. Real Club de Golf Las Brisas Marbella, Málaga, Spain 18 holes

Marbella, the other end of the run this list follows.

  7. Los Naranjos Golf Club Marbella, Málaga, Spain 18 holes

Marbella, minutes from Las Brisas, so a week at this end barely needs a car.
