By November the fairways at home are mud and it's dark by mid-afternoon. So every winter a lot of northern European golf packs up and heads for the Algarve, a short flight south to weather you can play in. This list is the courses worth building a week around, starting at the quiet eastern end near the Spanish border and working west through the resorts toward Lagos. We picked what belongs on it. The order follows the ratings members leave after the rounds they've actually played.
Every course here is chosen by the Birdied editors, then ordered by a blend of that editorial judgement and live ratings from the rounds our members log. The list reflects real play, not a single opinion. As more golfers review a course, its rating counts for more, and the order updates on its own. Only courses that meet Birdied's quality bar for a public page can appear, and the shortlist is capped so it stays a shortlist.
