Ballybunion Golf Club vs Portmarnock Golf Club

By Scott Mabin, Founder

The west coast against the Dublin coast, and they want different things from you. Ballybunion is high and exposed, cut into the dunes above the Shannon, and it suits a golfer who enjoys being slightly overwhelmed. Portmarnock sits on a flat spit north of the city and hides its teeth: no big dunes framing anything, just wind off the Irish Sea and the steady question of which side of the fairway is the safe one. If you're flying into Dublin, Portmarnock is the easy trip. Ballybunion is the one you'll still be talking about years later.
