Two east-coast links with very different temperaments. Muirfield is flat, strategic and open in front of you, and its concentric loops mean you've played every wind direction before you finish. Royal Aberdeen heads out through tall dunes along the beach and comes back on higher, more exposed ground, so the front nine and the back nine feel like two courses and the second is usually into the wind. Muirfield is the bigger name and the harder tee time to get. Royal Aberdeen gives you more dunes and, most days, a rougher second half.
